Lachat Makes Third Ascent of Chaxi 9a+

Cedric Lachat has done the third ascent of Chaxi (9a+), a almost 40 meter route bolted by Chris Sharma – and first climbed by Adam Ondra – in Oliana, Spain.

Lachat first tried the route in the beginning of 2012. Daniel Woods has made the third ascent of Witness the Fitness (Fb 8c | V15) in Arkansas’ Ozark Mountains. Chris Sharma made the first ascent in 2005, calling it one of the hardest routes he’d ever done.

The route goes out a 40-foot horizontal sandstone roof. Numerous holds broke during and immediately following Fred Nicole’s second ascent in 2006, causing many to dismiss it as unclimbable. Woods sized it up with Paul Robinson and Jimmy Webb, and cracked the crux on the first day. On the third day, Woods completed the problem with new beta, calling it a “solid V15.”
